  84.                 Thank you for trying out WRITE CHINESE!

  86. This program teaches basic Chinese calligraphy, focusing on 150 of the
  87. most frequently encountered characters which constitute approximately
  88. 1/3 of all printed materials. Both traditional and simplified characters
  89. are covered. The student practices calligraphy by drawing characters on
  90. simulated "nine-square box" paper. The program evaluates each character
  91. as it is being drawn, providing continuous feedback and positive
  92. reinforcement.

  94. This program also has quiz options to teach character meanings as well as
  95. Mandarin (Pinyin, CNPA) and Cantonese (Yale) transliterations.

  97. WRITE CHINESE is shareware, and of course, we would really appreciate
  98. your monetary support. Registration brings with it many benefits,
  99. including a larger Chinese database and bonus programs.  Whether or not

  106.                     NOTES ON RUNNING UNDER WINDOWS
  107.  
  108. WRITE CHINESE runs best as a stand-alone DOS application. If launched
  109. from Windows, the opening music may sound unpleasantly erratic. This will
  110. be true even if the program is provided "exclusive" use of system
  111. resources.
  112.  
  113. To toggle off the opening music, the program may launched via the
  114. CHINESE.PIF file provided as part of this program package.  The PIF file
  115. provides CHINESE.EXE with 512K memory, full-screen operation, exclusive
  116. use of system resources, and shuts off the opening music via a
  117. command-line parameter. The CHINESE.ICO file displays the character
  118. zhong-1, meaning "middle" as in the "Middle Kingdom" (China).

  120. The CHINESE.PIF file assumes that the program is installed in the
  121. C:\CHINESE subdirectory. If installed on some other drive or in a
  122. different subdirectory, you should use the PIF Editor to modify the file
  123. appropriately.

  125. If you prefer launching WRITE CHINESE from a full-screen DOS prompt,
  126. type "CHINESE N" to switch off the opening music.
